Envision Shakopee, the city’s new comprehensive plan will be the city’s vision and blueprint for the next 20 years. It will reflect our shared concerns and aspirations, anticipate future growth and redevelopment needs, guide decision making and address our responsibility to future generations.

The success of Envision Shakopee will hinge on the participation of residents, businesses, visitors and other stakeholders. Success also hinges on the city doing a better job of listening! To hear from people, we are creating more opportunities for involvement. This will include focus groups, workshops, presentations, city presence at community events and festivals, public meetings, and online platforms.

The truth is the city cannot do this alone. We are looking for community volunteers to serve as Plan Champions to spread the word and improve the planning process.

Plan Champion Role

1. Plan Promotion: Champions communicate important messages to groups and individuals whom the city struggles to engage
2. Insight Gathering: Champions gather insight on a number of issues to help the city understand perceptions, opinions and issues
3. Partnership Building: Champions build partnerships with other organizations to help improve the planning process and increase participation
4. Plan Creation: Champions commit to assisting with the creation of the plan and ensure input retains a key place in the comprehensive plan documents
5. Plan Implementation: Upon adoption of the comprehensive plan, serve as champions of the implementation of the plan’s outlined strategies and action steps.
